Narrow down the choice - choose your criteria
As you are no doubt aware, LED spot light bulbs are the best option for:
But with so many options available, which one should you choose?
The chart above shows the current range of GU10 LED bulbs arranged by price and brightness. In addition you might want to consider beam angle, colour temperature and physical size. The options on the right of the chart will help to narrow down the choice.
If you don't want to read all the information about each light bulb to make your own choice, these are our basic recommendations:
For perfect fit-and-forget GU10 LED lighting, we recommend the 6.8w warm white Sun-Star bulb from Prolite. It's a great direct replacement for an old style 50w halogen lamp in terms of brightness, light colour and dimming. The only gotcha is that it's slightly longer at 60mm, rather then the standard 55mm for a halogen lamp. This will not be a problem in most light fittings.
The 6w GU10 COB produces a lot of light (450 lumens) and has a 'halogen-style' COB LED which simply means that from the front it looks like the halogen bulbs that it replaces.
It has a very useful 45 degree beam angle, a nice warm colour and at a very competitive price. It is also the same physical length as a halogen bulb making it a great retro fit replacement. Also available in daylight white and dimmable version.
The GU10 4w LED (fresnel refractor) is currently the best value LED GU10 lamp that we have. It might not be the brightest, but it's certainly no slouch. Ideal for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, it features a flat-fronted Fresnel refractor for wider light distribution, has a very useful 50 degree beam angle and a great warm colour - although also available in cool white (5000K).
